I started dancing at the age of three. It was simply always something that I wanted to do. Through the years dancing with Mauldin’s Dance Academy, I did all forms of dance (even tumbling and acrobatics!). Eventually, in ballet, I was able to go on point shoes. I was ten years old, and worked my butt off to get the chance.
Through middle school and high school I continued dancing everywhere I could, even at home… I would have holes in my carpet in my room from dancing in front of my mirror. It was a true love of mine. My parents also entered me and my siblings into judo from the ages of six on. Eventually, I competed up into the black belt divisions until I was about twenty-six. I don’t do anything half way!
The skills I learned are always with me. The endurance, strength, and mental drive is something that can be gained in such a sport. Along with dancing and judo, track and field was also a big part of my life. I trained with my father in hurdles, sprints, and drills. I was in the gym every weekend with my brothers.
I use these elements that I learned from these diverse activities growing up in my daily work outs. I believe in using all training methods across the board. It keeps the body guessing, and provides a change in the daily same-old workouts.
In college, I danced in the theater department, ballet, jazz and tap. I joined Up With People, a traveling musical theater group, when I was twenty-one. We traveled the East Coast, Canada, and Europe. It was a blast to dance all over the world. It was also an eye opening experience, to see all forms of dance nationally.
After traveling I took dance classes here and there to maintain my level of achievement. I also had multiple trainers that I worked with as well. But it wasn’t until around 2010, after starting a family, that I brought dance and fitness seriously back into my life.
After dancing with some friends at the local 24-Hour Fitness I went out on my own and started my own business. I wanted to share my choreography and levels of dance and training with people on a personal level. I fell in love with teaching! I taught dance ages 2-50. And trained ages 20 and up. I found a spot in Highlands Ranch that I rented to start. Eventually, I designed my own in-house studio a couple years later. Since I’ve had my own space (even though I still travel for dance and training) the group of people I’ve met has been amazing.
I am an energetic lover of fitness and dance and would love for anyone to try my classes! My training is motivating, driving and fun! And a lot of my dancers had never danced a day in their life, but they do now. Come try a class and see what you think!
